Meet Our Pastor!

Robert McClain Lescallette, our current interim pastor, began his ministry among us in August 2020. A native of Harrisburg, born in 1948, he was graduated from Central Dauphin East High School, Dickenson College, and the United Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg. He also attended the John Hopkins Center for International Studies in Bologna, Italy, while a junior at Dickinson, served in the U.S.Air Force after college, and during seminary, was an intern pastor at Salem Lutheran Church in Lebanon, PA, and a student at Catholic University in Washington, DC.

Pastor Bob's first and only parish, as a full-time minister, was at St. John'e Lutheran Church in Maytown, Lancaster County, from 1978 until his retirement in 2018, 40 years later.

Bob returned to Harrisburg at that time to be close to his family, and he moved into a brand-new house. After a few months of settling in, he spent almost a year serving as a "stated supply" pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Elliotsburg, Perry County, PA, and this was followed by a brief tenure in a small two-charge parish outside of Carlisle, PA, which ended with the onset of the COVID pandemic.

After coming to Barner's Church, he began a part-time ministry which includes leading worship services, visiting hospitalized and shut-in members, attending Sunday School classes and monthly council meetings, writing for the quarterly newsletter, attending ministerial meetings, and presiding at occasional baptisms, weddings, and funerals. He also works at our chocolate egg-making project and our Apple Butter Boil. In 2023, he wrote and published a hard-bound, 200+ page congregational history book entitled "An Aerie in Perry" to mark the 150th anniversary of the dedication of our present brick church building.

A bachelor, Bob lives with his orange cat in their Colonial Park home. Outside his church involvements, his interests include reading histories and mysteries, doing word puzzles, watching YouTube videos and TV, visiting family and friends, antiquing, and traveling ---mainly to Europe. He thanks God for the warm and loving family that the Lord has given him at Barners Church.
